We hold an extensive collection of photographs taken by pioneering photographers in the 19th century.

Prints are now available of a wide selection of images taken for the Survey of Western Palestine (1871 - 77).

Many pictures in the archive represent buildings and scenes no longer in existence. There are photographs made during the excavations of Jerusalem (Mt Zion & Ophel), Tell el-Hesi, Tell Sandahannah, Gezer, Ain Shems, Ascalon, Jericho, Lachish, and Samaria.

Photographers whose work is included include Kitchener, Petrie, Bliss, Macalister and Garstang.

We also have many prints by 19th century commercial photographers including Bonfils, Frith and Graham.

Prints may be ordered direct from the P.E.F. A price list is available on request. There are special rates for research students.
