Ras Ibn Hani was the 'summer palace' of
the Queens of Ugarit.Extensive excavations, still continuing, have revealed the remains
of the Late Bronze-Age palace, which, like Emar on the Euphrates, was
destroyed by the Sea-Peoples in the 12th century BC.
The remains of
the palace show the dramatic signs of this destruction, with mortar,
mud-brick, and lime plaster bearing scorch marks and other evidence of
having been subjected to a conflagration. Cypro-Phoenician pottery
occurs at this site after the destruction, which suggests that this
site was immediately re-settled by the invaders and their allies.
